A 5% fee applies to all online payments.  This includes deposits, shipping, delivery and appointment fees.

Identification

You must be 18 or older to purchase a hedgehog from us.
Identification is required for ALL purchases.
No ID, No Hedgehog, No Exceptions.

Health Guarantee

We guarantee that all hedgehogs sold by us are free from any known and undisclosed illnesses or defects.
We provide our buyers with lifetime support.
All buyers must have their new hedgehog examined by a licensed veterinarian who is experienced with hedgehogs within 5 business days of the date of purchase and return the vet card (that we provide) to us.  Failing to do so will nullify any/all guarantees.

In the unlikely event that a hedgehog sold by us is found to have a life-threatening congenital defect or WHS, he/she will be replaced with a hedgehog of equal value (based on current age) as soon as one is available and once we have received the original hedgehog and all documentation from the veterinarian confirming such a diagnosis. We reserve the right to a conference with the diagnosing veterinarian for confirmation.  We reserve the right to a second opinion, at our expense.  Replacement does not include shipping cost.

In the unlikely event that a hedgehog sold by us should die from causes other than geriatric related illness, the buyer is expected to have a licensed veterinarian, who is experienced with hedgehogs, perform a necropsy to determine the cause of death and notify us of the cause.  If it is determined that the cause of death was a congenital defect or WHS, we will replace him/her with a hedgehog of equal value (based on age at time of death) as soon as one is available and once we have received the necropsy report and any other accompanying documentation from the veterinarian, confirming cause of death.  We reserve the right to a conference with the diagnosing veterinarian for confirmation.  We reserve the right to a second opinion, at our expense.  Replacement does not include shipping cost.

We make no guarantees regarding cancers of any type as we believe that many cancers are often caused by artificial preservatives and other chemicals in commercial pet foods and/or as a direct result of poor environment, poor diet and poor hygiene.

We reserve the right to request that your veterinarian consult with Dr. Terry Spraker, DVM, Ph.D. regarding any diagnosing of WHS.

PLEASE NOTE:  No replacement will be given without documentation of the illness/death by a licensed veterinarian who is experienced with hedgehogs.  If you are unable to have a necropsy performed, please contact us immediately about returning the remains to us so that we may have the necropsy performed; in which case no replacement will be given regardless of cause of death.
We are not responsible for any medical expenses except:  A conference between Hood Petz and the diagnosing veterinarian for confirmation, a second opinion that is at our request, a necropsy that we offer to have performed with no replacement hedgehog.
Special Note:
It is very important to notify the breeder when an animal dies from any condition that is known/suspected to be genetic or hereditary.

We consider failure to provide the hedgehog with the required temperatures of 75°F - 80°F, to be a form of abuse, which will nullify this guarantee.
We consider failure to offer a proper diet (consisting of LIVE insects a minimum of 2 days per week) to be a form of neglect, which will nullify this guarantee.
We will not replace any hedgehog that dies/becomes ill as a result of any form of neglect/abuse; including, but not limited to:
 - The above mentioned temperature and dietary requirements
 - Gastric or intestinal impaction caused from consuming freeze dried insects
 - Allergic reaction of any type
 - Broken bones, injuries, and the like
 - Infections including but not limited to respiratory, skin, urinary, etc.

Deposits / Payments

A $50.00 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve a hedgehog.
Hedgehogs are not considered reserved until the deposit has been received by us.
The $50.00 deposit is deducted from price.  The hedgehog is marked RESERVED for you.
By placing a deposit, you are agreeing to our policies.
Deposits can be paid in cash in person or online via PayPal.
No hedgehog will leave Hood Petz until any/all online payments have cleared.
If a hedgehog is being shipped, shipping will not take place nor be scheduled until payment in full for the hedgehog AND shipping is received and has cleared.

IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT PAYPAL PAYMENTS:

  • Payments sent using your PayPal balance or a credit/debit card are applied instantly.
  • E-checks take several days to clear.  Paying by e-check may delay pick resulting in additional fees.

NOTE:
If you've placed a deposit on a hedgehog marked "AVAILABLE NOW", you are expected to pay the remainder and pick up within 7 calendar days.

If you've placed a deposit on a hedgehog marked "AVAILABLE FOR DEPOSIT", you are expected to pay the remainder and pick up within 7 calendar days of the weaning date.

Appointments in our home

ALL VISITORS AND PICK UPS ARE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.
Appointments take approximately 1 hour.  Please keep this in mind when scheduling.

Visitor Meet & Greet
If you have not placed a deposit on a hedgehog and would like to meet a few (up to 4) that are available, there will be a $25.00 appointment fee.  This fee must be paid in advance.  If you decide to purchase a hedgehog from us during that visit, the $25.00 fee will be deducted from the price of the hedgehog.

Pick Ups
If you have placed a deposit on a hedgehog there is no fee for your pick up appointment.
If you have not placed a deposit, your appointment is considered a meet & greet and you will need to pay the $25.00 appointment fee in advance.

If you have scheduled either a Meet & Greet or a Pick Up appointment and you are unable to make it, please let us know.  We have blocked off the scheduled time just for you and may have changed our own plans or turned away others to accommodate you.

If you have scheduled either a Meet & Greet or a Pick Up appointment and you are going to be significantly late, please let us know.  We understand that traffic can cause delays and we are pretty flexible but if it is going to disrupt our other appointments for the day, we would prefer that you reschedule.

While in our home:

  • Children are welcome at our appointments.  We ask that you discuss the appointment with your children before you arrive.  It is important that children are respectful of the conversation that the grown-ups are having.  If we are unable to communicate vital information to you, we are not likely to send you home with a hedgehog.
     
  • If you are in our home and handling a hedgehog, be aware that hedgehogs poop.  If the hedgehog poops on you, we are more than happy to give you napkins, antibacterial hand gel, and access to our restroom to clean up.  If the hedgehog poops on the floor or furniture, please bring it to my attention so that I may clean it up.
     
  • Please allow me to cover the care material with you.  You may have a lot of questions but I will likely cover it if you allow me to go over things in an orderly manner.
    All buyers are provided with printed material to take home that covers all basic care.

If you have placed a deposit on a hedgehog, we are happy to meet you at one of the following 5 locations at no charge:

To meet with us at other locations:

  • You must place a deposit on the hedgehog.
  • The delivery fee is $0.35 per mile from zip code 32068-3060.
  • The delivery fee (and deposit) must be paid in advance.

​We appreciate being notified if you're going to be more than 10 minutes late.
We expect you to notify us if you're going to be more than 30 minutes late.

We appreciate being notified 24 hours before the appointment time if you're unable to keep the appointment.
We expect you to notify us at least 12 hours before the appointment time if you are unable to keep the appointment.

NO SHOWS
If we travel to a destination to meet with you and you do not show, we will not reschedule another meeting.  You will be expected to pick up at our location in Middleburg, FL.

SHIPPING

We currently offer shipping through Delta Air Cargo and ground transport.

If you are within 300 miles of Middleburg, FL we can arrange a meeting or delivery but we will not ship within that distance of our location.


Delta Shipping:  $225.00

  • You will be required to pick up the hedgehog from the airport.
  • Payment in full for the hedgehog and shipping must be sent in advance.
  • Supplies cannot be sent other than a sample of food and snuggle sack.
  • Weather can restrict dates/times that shipping is available.
  • Your phone number and a scan of your driver's license/state ID is required.

Ground Shipping:  $250.00 + $45.00 (per hedgehog) for health certificate

  • Arrival times may be at inconvenient hours.  This is beyond our control.
  • Payment in full for the hedgehog and shipping must be sent in advance.
  • Some supplies can be sent with approval from transporter.
  • Weather and traffic can restrict arrival date/time.
  • Your phone number and a scan of your driver's license/state ID is required.

This info is subject to change with fluctuations in shipping charges (air fare), cost of supplies and the weather conditions.

Refunds

If a payment is sent and we later determine that the sale is not in the best interest of the hedgehog, the seller, or the buyer, the payment will be refunded in full.
This refund is ONLY in the event that it is our sole decision to cancel the sale and that our decision was not based on deception on your part.

If you have completed our Contact Form and were deceptive about your age, your residence in a legal state, whether or not you currently own hedgehogs, your intentions regarding breeding, or who the actual intended owner of the hedgehog is/will be, we will not refund the full payment.  If it has been determined that you were deceptive when completing the contact form or during email/messenger conversation, the $50.00 deposit amount will be retained and the remainder will be refunded.

Returns

We do our best to ensure that every hedgehog that leaves us is matched with a suitable owner.  We would like to see every animal go to a forever home but we do understand that sometimes circumstances can leave some pet owners with no choice but to re-home or return their pet.
We REQUIRE that our buyers notify us in the event that they are unable to keep their hedgehog.  We reserve the right to take the hedgehog back rather than the buyer sending it to a new owner that we have not screened.  For that reason, we have one of the best return policies that you will find among animals breeders.

If the hedgehog is returned to us in good health, the following section outlines our return policy.
Within 7 calendar days of purchase - 80% refund of the purchase price
8 - 14 calendar days of purchase - 65% refund of the purchase price
15 - 30 calendar days of purchase - 50% refund of the purchase price
31 - 45 calendar days of purchase - 35% refund of the purchase price
45 - 60 calendar days of purchase - 20% refund of the purchase price

After 60 days, no refund is given, but are always happy accept the hedgehog as a rescue.

Refunds are offered in cash at the return of the hedgehog.
Shipping charges and delivery fees will not be refunded once those services have been provided to you.

No refund will be given for any hedgehog that is returned to us ill.
No refund will be given for any hedgehog that is returned to us injured.

Surrenders/Rescues

No matter who you acquired your hedgehog from, if you find yourself unable to keep your hedgehog, we are happy to help.  We take in rescues/surrenders and once they've been deemed healthy they:

  • Go to a suitable pet home.
  • Go to Sir Snuffy's Hedgehog Sanctuary and often become animal ambassadors.
           OR
  • Stay at Hood Petz as a non-breeding resident and/or animal ambassador.

Sir Snuffy's Hedgehog Sanctuary which is located near Tampa, FL and is run by the most wonderful lady.  She takes some of the neediest hedgehogs, gives them heaps of love, and keeps them for all of their days.  Once they reach Sir Snuffy's, they do not change hands again.  She provides the best home care and has a great working relationship with her vet so her hedgehogs receive veterinary care whenever necessary.  We can't say enough good things about Sir Snuffy's.

Upon surrender you will be asked to provide some information about the hedgehog and yourself.  The reason for this is that USDA requires details about every hedgehog on our premises.  The details that we ask for are:

  • Your first and last name.
  • Your address.  Again, this is for USDA so that we do not violate any regulations about the animals in our care.
  • Hedgehog DOB if you know it.  This is important if the hedgehog requires veterinary care as age can dictate the type/dosage of some medications.
  • Name of the breeder who produced the hedgehog.  If you did not purchase from the breeder and do not know, we understand.
  • Any medical or health details about the hedgehog that might be relevant in future care.
